The brain child of Jean –Louis Diot and Philippe Chalin. In 1989 at the Golf de Lyon Verger, the first Derby brought together the four regional clubs of Lyon Verger, Golf Club de Lyon, Salvagny and Le Clou  for the most original inter-club competition.

The purpose of the promoters was to create a yearly festival for all golf-lovers in the Lyon region. Over one weekend, in a truly golfing spirit, all club teams compete with the pleasure of meeting other golf lovers of the region.

This event became so successful that, one after another, the other clubs in the region decided to join: first Mionnay la Dombe, then Chassieu, le Beaujolais and finally le Gouveneur.

Today no fewer than eight clubs, four hundred players and five thousand spectators congregate on each Whitsun week end for what has become the largest amateur golfing event in France.
